Time Out

A recent trip to the beach and gardening.

Well I've been following the suggestions in the HTOTB book and have reached the discipline stage. I didn't really think that one disiplined children as young as jack, but i was wrong. Time outs are the suggested action. It's more about starting a routine than actually disiplining to get results. Basically if jack is doing something he's not supposed to be, or in an uncontrolable tantrum, i am to state that he will get a time out if he doesn't stop doing whatever it is that he is doing, then count to three very slowly, using body language as well. If the behavior continues when three is up i am to put him in a playpen for 30 to 60 seconds. After that I'm supposed to get him out and just hang out with him. I thought for sure when I got him out, he'd be kicking and screaming, but really he was fine and happy to play or read. Aso I noticed that he didn't go back to the thing that got him a timeout for the rest of the day. So now there are no more baracades erected in our house and Jack is pretty good about not climbing and touching things he's not supposed to! It feels good, and we've both been having better days because of this whle process. So on with life....... We're getting ready to go to Seattle for a few days. I've been looking online at shops and other things to do as Cory will be at his confrence most of the time. It's going to be interesting as Jack will be sleeping in the same room as us for naps and nighttime. Most likely I'll just crawl into bed after I put him down for naps. Not sure of what to do about the evenings. We were goingto get a baby sitter one evening, but using a babysitting service is insanely expensive. Alright I've got to have some lunch....haven't hardly had time to eat all day!!
